Formation
The Burnley and District Historical Society was formed shortly after the Second World War to promote and facilitate interest in local history in its broadest sense
Meetings
The Society meets at monthly between September and April. Programme on meetings page, with reports on meetings on News & Views page
We are asked by one of our members for the Imperial War Museum to search for PRIVATE WAR MEMORIALS- in whatever form they may be. They may be in private hands rather than public spaces, may be books, pictures, plaques, boards, or any other form and not known to the general public. Please let us know if you are aware of any.
Publications
The other main work of the society relates to the publication and sales of books and pamphlets. A wide variety of local topics are covered and over the years many have been published and re-printed and the majority of authors have specialist local knowledge. Copies of past editions of Retrospect are available and a NEW Index is now available for articles 1980-2025
